Wrongly convicted inmates can now sue the state for more money. The minimum was $20,000 but that will now rise to $50,000. The maximum has been twice the person’s annual income before they became imprisoned. The bill sponsors say they felt it was a fair change considering what a person would go through if wrongfully convicted. The law on this hasn’t been changed in 16 years according to Democrats.
