While many law enforcement have been cracking down on heroin use; concerns are now growing over a laced heroin. Fentanyl, a drug that can be given to those close cancer patients who are close to death and have chronic pain, is being put into heroin. This potent drug has caused 80 plus deaths across the northeast, including in New Jersey. Officials say even the smallest dose can have a lethal impact on the user. This is in addition to the struggles many areas are having with regular heroin use and the deaths it has caused.
