Atlantic County officials say progress is being made on the reconstruction of the English Creek Bridge (EH-21) at milepost 5.35 of Route 559 in Egg Harbor Township. The existing 99-year old steel pony truss bridge was severely damaged by flood waters. It is being replaced with a concrete bridge that will be raised above the 100-year flood plain, with a clear span of 60 feet and a 7-foot, 3-inch underclearance at mean high water to accommodate small pleasure boats that seek access to English Creek. The reconstruction will occur in two phases over the next 22 months. It started in mid-June.
