Mayor William Pikolycky is pleased to announce that the dedication ceremony for the Woodbine Police Chief Phillip DeSantis Memorial and Reflection Area has been set for May 15, 2010, at 5 p.m. The location is the Woodbine bikepath at the intersection of Route 550 and Heine Avenue.
Life Scout Francis Smyth, Jr, of Troop 56, Dennisville created the Memorial/Reflection Area as his Eagle Scout Project in honor of the late Woodbine Police Chief Phillip J. DeSantis. Chief DeSantis was killed in the line of duty, on August 6, 1973 while trying to arrest a local man after he robbed and killed a gas attendant in Middle Twp.
“We wish to invite everyone to join us in this dedication ceremony,” added Mayor Pikolycky. “And to express our gratitude both to Chief DeSantis for his ultimate sacrifice and to Frank Smyth and all those who assisted him with this worthy endeavor.”
