Mayor William Pikolycky is pleased to announce that the Borough of Woodbine has been awarded funding from the United State Department of Agriculture, Rural Development (USDA) to assist with pre-development costs associated with the redevelopment of the former landfill site. These funds will leverage additional public and private financing utilized to transform the landfill site while creating new jobs and ratables for the Borough.
Benefits include cleaning up or capping of the landfill, the production of clean energy, new permanent jobs, and hopefully utilization of water from waste water treatment plant(s).
The Borough and USDA will be holding a ceremony to celebrate the receipt of a $98,000 check on August 26, at 11 a.m. at the Municipal Building, 501 Washington Avenue.
The USDA funds will be used for structural studies on the landfill to assess weight bearing loads, for environmental mitigation, and site planning to support planning and development activities at the Woodbine landfill.
