A huge accomplishment took place with the Coast Guard in Cape May on Tuesday. Petty Officer 1st Class Kristin Werner became the first female chief gunner’s mate. She became the first female in the history of the Coast Guard to achieve this ranking. Werner will be able to work with weapons like machine guns and rifles, which is what the ranking designates.
