The state’s Civil Service Commission has approved a plan involving layoffs of public workers in Wildwood. Coastal Broadcasting has confirmed with the state department that a plan submitted by the city has been approved. Details of the overall scope of the plan that were approved have not yet been made available to Coastal Broadcasting, nor have city officials in Wildwood received the confirmation from the state yet. The initial plan that was submitted included 41 names. Commissioner Chip Harshaw said the layoffs within his department of public works will be held off until the bids on outsourcing trash removal come back later this month.
Coastal Broadcasting has also learned that a union meeting was held on Wednesday evening, involving members of the public works department, where union leadership read off names that will likely be let go by the city. These names are believed to be the ones that were submitted by the city. Coastal Broadcasting expects to have the plan in detail on Friday.
