The Borough of Wildwood Crest now has the ability to notify its residents directly via telephone in the event of a community emergency.
The borough is now part of the Global Connect Emergency Notification System (GCENS), which gives the Wildwood Crest Police Department the ability to contact all residents registered in the system should an emergency arise.
According to Wildwood Crest Police Chief Thomas DePaul, also the borough’s emergency management coordinator, the GCENS can be put in use to notify residents of weather-related emergencies and other community-wide crises. The system can also target specific neighborhoods and streets in the borough to, for example, notify affected residents of potential water and electrical shutoffs should they arise.
Emergency notifications would come via a prerecorded message from the Wildwood Crest Police Department
All residents’ landline telephone numbers, including unlisted numbers, have been placed in the borough’s GCENS system for potential notification in the event of a borough emergency. Residents are also encouraged to register additional telephone numbers, such as cellular numbers, in the system by logging on to the borough’s police department web site at www.wildwoodcrestpolice.org.
