Wildwood Beach Patrol has a new layer of protection to keep swimmers and beachgoers safe. The city unveiled what they call “Tower X.” It is a new 20-foot tower that made its debut on July 1. The tower increases sight lines by about 12 to 15 feet, according to city officials. The tower will act like a waterline substation of the Wildwood Beach Patrol Headquarters. This gives us a better view of the surf zone,β said Wildwood Beach Patrol Chief Steven Stocks. βThe lifeguard can read the ocean better, see the waves better, see the rip currents better and account for all of the people in his area of responsibility better because he or she is higher than in a lifeguard stand.β
