Officials in West Wildwood are urging local residents to apply for financial assistance to help elevate their properties in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Borough Administrator Christopher Ridings says individual flood insurance policies may provide up to $30,000 towards the cost of home elevation to bring the structure into compliance. According to new flood maps, 95 percent of the 900 homes in West Wildwood do not meet the guidelines for elevation. Residents who choose not to elevate their homes to comply with the new guidelines could see a large increase in their flood insurance premiums.
