Tom Williams of Prime Events and Mike McGarry of the Press of Atlantic City were selected as the 2010 New Jersey Sportscaster and Sportswriter of the Year, respectively. They were among 110 selected across the country as tops in their state.
Longtime play-by-play announcers Brent Musburger and Bob Uecker and Bob Ryan, a 42-year veteran of the Boston Globe, were voted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame. The three will be enshrined in Salisbury on May 16.
Joining Musburger, Uecker and Ryan will be 2010 National Sportscaster of the Year Mike Tirico of ABC and ESPN, and 2010 National Sportswriter of the Year Peter King of Sports Illustrated during the NSSA’s 52nd Annual Awards Weekend, May 14-16.
Williams won for the third straight year and seventh time overall. He anchors Prime Events’ coverage of high school sports on the radio and online. Williams is one of only 21 sportscasters who have won their state award in four or more different decades. His first win was in 1981. The longest streak is by Vin Scully of California, who has been honored in seven different decades.
