In the wake of a 3-year old boy’s death in a grease trap on Tuesday, the mayor of Vineland has called for new legislation. Mayor Robert Romano wants to see a new law that would add mandates to how long grease traps or other types of pits can be left uncovered or unattended. The legislation could help prevent a tragedy such as the one that claimed the life of Jody Marmolejo, who drowned in a grease trap behind his parents Vineland supermarket. Police say they do not plan to file any criminal charges in the boy’s death.
