A former Ocean County assemblyman came to his own defense on Tuesday when he testified on his own behalf. Daniel Van Pelt said in court the $10,000 bribe he was alleged to have taken, was money he believed was for consulting fees. The defense in the case is saying that Van Pelt was working on creating his own consulting firm was going to take on more clients. He was one of 44 people arrested last year by in the FBI in a corruption sting.
