A gas pipeline that South Jersey Gas wanted to build didn’t get the necessary votes and Senator Jeff Van Drew wants to know why. Senator Jeff Van Drew announced today that he is beginning an investigatory process along with Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak analyzing what went wrong with the South Jersey Gas application to build a gas pipeline to supply the Beesley’s Point Power plant owned by R.C. Cape May. It’s estimated that 75 construction jobs would be created in building this pipeline, 60 jobs would be saved at the power plant if the generating station stays open. Currently there is only one major source of natural gas into Cape May County and if that line is compromised, there will be no source of natural gas to the entire county.
