New legislation has been introduced to help local mayors control spending from different boards and authorities. State Senator Jeff Van Drew tells Coastal Broadcasting that he has sponsored a bill that would allow a mayor, with the permission of council, veto power over boards in the town. Gov. Chris Christie has this power, as he has vetoed minutes from meetings from a number of state agencies. A bill granting county freeholder directors the power was signed into law earlier this year. Van Drew believes have a more watchful eye on spending, event at the local level, is useful.
