The woman who allegedly threw her infant child into the Atlantic Ocean on Sunday has been charged with aggravated assault. Atlantic City Police have identified the woman as 24 year-old Patricia Shurig, who reportedly threw her baby into the water from a jetty on Pacific Avenue and then jumped in herself, according to witnesses. The one-month-old infant was rescued by Tom Bell, a retired Atlantic City firefighter, who was fishing nearby. Another fisherman, Luis Ortiz, jumped into the inlet to rescue Shurig. The mother could be facing additional charges and is being held on $100,000 bail.
