Vineland police have released the name of the three-year-old boy who drowned in a grease trap outside a supermarket on Tuesday. The victim was Jordy Marmolejo, believed to be the son of the owner of the store, Cidra’s Supermarket. The grease pit is usually covered by a 2-foot wide manhole cover. According to police, the cover was removed by employees as they were preparing to use the 5-foot deep grease pit. According to the report, the young boy fell into the pit and workers tried to rescue him without success. The boy was submerged in the grease pit for 5-15 minutes before Vineland rescue workers were able to get him out, and was pronounced dead at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center.
