The latest beach fill project planned for south Ocean City, Sea Isle City and Strathmere, actually began on Thursday afternoon at about 1:45 p.m. on the beach at 42nd Street. The $57.6 million project will pump about 1.6 million cubic yards of sand on approximately 2.6 miles of beach between 36th and 59th streets. The project is being overseen by the Army Corps of Engineers and is expected to be completed in early July. Local officials will be joined on Friday morning at a 10 a.m. press conference by Congressman Frank LoBiondo and NJDEP Commissioner Bob Martin at the beach on 42nd Street to provide details of the beach fill.
