36 year old Dennis McDaniels has been identified as the Philadelphia firefighter who lost his life during the Escape the Cape Triathlon Sunday in Lower Township. The Delaware River and Bay Authority announced that McDaniels had nearly completed the swim portion of the event when he went into medical distress. Stephen DelMonte, the CEO of the organization that runs the event, says he is “heartbroken” at McDaniels’ passing.
