Swimmers, fishermen and sightseers have been treated to an unusual natural phenomenon along the Jersey coastline this summer. The ocean waters have been crystal clear and tinted a tropical shade of aquamarine, for a noticeably different appearance of the water at the beach. Weather experts report in the Press of Atlantic City, that the coloration is caused by a phytoplankton bloom that was fed by an upwelling of cool water earlier this month. The water is clearer due to an ongoing drought across parts of the Northeast.
