The U.S. Secretary of the Interior paid a visit to South Jersey on Tuesday. Sally Jewell began her visit at the American Wind Energy Association Offshore Wind Power Conference in Atlantic City. Jewell’s next stop was Reeds Beach in Middle Township, to learn how the area continues to recover from Hurricane Sandy. A pilot program at Reeds Beach has restored the beach habitats of unique wildlife like the horseshoe crab and red knot bird and was expanded to six other area sites. Secretary Jewell agrees with local officials that wildlife refuges can drive the local economy, in addition to protecting wildlife.
