TRIAL BEGINS IN BASEBALL-BAT KILLING

On Monday the murder trial of a 31 year-old Wildwood resident began in Cape May County Superior Court. Alberto Martinez is on trial for the May 2010 murder of Vincent DeSario, who was struck in the head with a baseball bat and died two weeks later of his injuries. DeSario’s father was the prosecution’s first witness on Monday, but there is no jury to hear the case. The defendant requested a bench trial, so presiding Judge Patricia Wild will rule on the outcome of the case.
