Traffic has been reduced to one lane southbound on the Garden State Parkway near the Somers Point toll plaza. The cause for the delay is a giant concrete beam, that tipped over and fell on it’s side along the west side of the parkway at the base of the Great Egg Harbor Bridge. The beam was supposed to be part of the new bridge construction, but fell over as workers attempted to load it onto a truck. Workers are now breaking the beam into smaller pieces, so it can be hauled away before the weekend. According to State Police, one worker was injured after going down a 10-foot embankment and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
