The four top ranking Democrats in the Senate and Assembly are proposing changes to the election system in the state. The group led by Senate President Steve Sweeney proposed a bill package they hope to have on Gov. Chris Christie’s desk by the end of the month. Among the changes would be automatically enrolling votes upon receiving a driver’s license, ramping up early voting, and forcing pre-election material to be printed in many languages. They believe this will help declining voter turnout in the state.
