The US Coast Guard received a distress call from a fishing vessel off the coast of Cape May at about 12:45am Sunday. The crew of the Viking II reported they were taking on water about 80 miles southeast of the Cape May coast. After attempting to use a dewatering pump delivered by a Coast Guard helicopter without success, the crew escaped to another fishing vessel, the Miss Suzzane. They were later transferred to an 87-foot Coast Guard cutter and taken ashore.
