The eight candidates running for city commission want a more efficient government, there is just some disagreement how to get there. One point everyone agreed on, the island should be one community. Calls for consolidation among the four communities were echoed by the eight candidates. Mayor Gary DeMarzo led the call with his running mates, Chip Harshaw of the incumbents, with their running mate and Dara Baltuskonis that taxes were lowered in the last year and a half, and that warrants more time in office. Former Mayor Ernie Troiano and his running mates, Pete Byron and Anthony Leonetti said there have been too many cuts to public safety and making Wildwood a safer town will bring more business in.
Among the single candidates, Sandra Richardson talked about treating all property owners equal and that Morey’s Piers should have to contribute more in taxes for their piers. Al Brannen is the other incumbent, and he said he was able to work with the fire department when he was in charge of public safety, and bring everyone together to find fair contracts.
