On Thursday, union workers at the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City voted overwhelmingly to authorize their negotiating committee to call a strike. The Press of Atlantic City reports that a spokesman for UNITE-HERE Local 54 said a committee of 60-70 Taj workers is now able to call for a labor strike if they choose. The union has been in a dispute with Carl Icahn over pension and health benefits, as he takes over the casino to lead it out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The union has also trying to have a court ruling overturned that approved the cutbacks last October.
