On Wednesday morning tropical storm Joaquin was upgraded to a hurricane by the National Hurricane Center, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Hurricane Joaquin is the third hurricane of the 2015 Atlantic season and his center is located less than 250 miles east-northeast of the central Bahamas. Hurricane warnings and watches have been posted for the Bahamas. It is too early to determine specific impacts from the storm for our area, but most computer models have the storm tracking north towards the Mid-Atlantic coastline by late Sunday night.
