Horse racing and the casino industry are important to the highest ranking Democrat in the state. Senate President Steve Sweeney said on Wednesday he doesn’t like the plan by Gov. Chris Christie which “abandons” the racing industry in the state. Christie wants the subsidy from the casino industry to come to an end, but not allow slot machines at the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park. Sweeney says the Senate is committed to looking at alternatives that could save the racing industry in the state.
