New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney claims that a bill to legalize gay marriage in the state would pass if Governor Christie would stop pressuring Republican lawmakers. Christie vetoed the gay marriage bill last year and so far the legislature has not attempted to override his veto. Sweeney said on Tuesday that several Republicans would support the bill if the governor would let them vote their conscience. Christie is quoted as saying the idea that he controls the vote is “insulting”.
