New Jersey State Senate President Steve Sweeney is calling for a big change to New Jersey law to prevent special elections from being held on a Wednesday ever again. Sweeney told the Star Ledger that low voter turnout in Wednesday’s special United States Senate election clearly shows that the state needs to bring clarity to special elections. Voter turnout was low statewide as democrat Cory Booker defeated republican Steve Lonegan to win a Senate seat vacated by the death of Frank Lautenberg.
