Stone Harbor’s beach opening event held Friday morning, May 22nd at the 95th Street beach had nothing but crystal blue skies and smiling faces. Mayor Suzanne Walters, Borough Council, and the Stone Harbor Beach Patrol welcomed residents, school children, merchants and visitors to a picture perfect celebration to kick off the season. Stone Harbor Elementary students helped Mayor Walters open the beaches by casting their ceremonial “fish line” which displayed the children’s seashore themed artwork. Then Mayor Walters and Stone Harbor Beach Patrol Captain Sandy Bosacco officially “unlocked” the beaches for the 2015 tourism season. “We’re looking forward to a safe and successful summer after such a cold winter,” exclaimed Captain Bosacco. “The beach opening ceremony was a wonderful way to start the Holiday weekend, especially with a bright forecast.” Students also got an early special treat by the Atlantic Ice Cream Company, whom is operating Stone Harbor beach concessions for the 2015 season.
