The Stone Harbor Borough Council met on Tuesday, February 5th and announced a Borough-wide information program regarding the county’s switch to single-stream recycling that is scheduled to take effect on April 1st, 2013. Council also approved an ordinance on first reading reacting to new proposed flood elevation maps that will be in place along the Jersey Shore. They were previously announced by Gov. Chris Christie to protect new construction from being impacted from a future storm like Sandy.
The Stone Harbor Borough Council also authorized Mayor Suzanne Walters to make an application to the Cape May County Open Space Fund for the Borough’s proposed Point of Peace 9-11 Memorial Park. The park would include Stone Harbor’s artifact from the World Trade Center site in New York City. Borough officials estimate that over 27 years the Borough has contributed $4.7 million to the fund yet never made an application for funding.
