Current law says people that saltwater fish must pay $15 to get registered if your not already registered. State Senator Jeff Van Drew says that will all change. Van Drew tells Coastal Broadcasting that the legisature is finalizing legislation that will go to Gov. Chris Christie to create a free registry in New Jersey. Federal law requires the $15 payment, if the state has no registry program. The registry is needed to know how many people are fishing and what is being caught. The 1st district lawmaker says it will be up to Gov. Chris Christie to accept the legislation to avoid charging fishing men and women.
