STATE IMMEDIATELY BANS HARVEST OF DIAMONDBACK TERRAPIN

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has immediately closed the remainder of the harvest season for the diamondback terrapin turtle which is prevalent here at the Jersey Shore.  Commissioner Bob Martin says the order is a result of pressures from increased harvesting of the terrapin turtles in coastal areas of New Jersey.  Violators of Martin’s order will be prosecuted.
