The City of Wildwood is waiting to hear back from the state’s Civil Service Commission on a layoff proposal that would cost 41 workers their jobs in the city. One of the people on that list is Wildwood Mayor Gary DeMarzo for his police job that he has chosen to give up, due to a court order. The plan was sent two weeks ago and the state is within its 30 day review period. No layoffs may occur without the state’s approval. The city is using the layoffs as one part of plan to reduce the overall budget. Commissioner Chip Harshaw says that the eventually layoff list will be decided on what the state allows the city to do.
