New crime rate data shows a mixed bag in local counties. Overall, the state saw a three percent increase in overall crime from 2010 to 2011. Cape May County saw a one percent increase during that same time period. Atlantic County got good news with crime dropping seven percent year-to-year. The New Jersey State Police releases its uniform crime reporting data each year. One of the best pieces of news was violent crime was down in Atlantic County by 11 percent; however, Cape May County had a 26 percent in violent crime.
