Sports betting is now allowed in New Jersey…kind of. Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation on Tuesday to approve sports book in the state, but a federal law still outlaws the practice in New Jersey. Only four states are allowed under federal law to have sports book. This legislation will help aid a political fight with the federal government to get the ban overturned. Lawmakers believe it will provide a financial windfall to Atlantic City and make the state more competitive versus other states that don’t have sports book. Also, some argue it is already happening illegally and this will help regulate the practice.
