In an emergency situation you have to call 911. That could soon change. One county is testing a texting 911 option before the program is rolled out statewide. The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management Services is using Camden County as a test model for a larger roll out. If the new web-based 911 system goes well, which also involves texting, then it could be rolled out to the 21 other counties as well. A couple of local counties, including Cape May County have a program that residents can text tips to the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office.
