On Wednesday, January 26th, Officer David C. Douglass, Jr. graduated from the 31st Basic Class of the Cape May County Police Academy.
Douglass’ father, David C. Douglass, Sr. was a 34 year old Lower Township Police Officer when he was killed in the line of duty after exchanging gun fire with a burglary suspect who had just set a house on fire in Lower Township on February 18, 1994.
Douglass, 30, who was just 12 years old when his father lost his life, served as a Sheriff’s Officer with the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department.
His father also began his career as a Cape May County Sheriff’s Officers before serving with the Lower Township Police Department.
Director Anthony Saduk of the Cape May County Police Academy, invited Lower Township Police Chief, Edward Donohue, a personal friend of Douglass’ father, to be the keynote speaker for the graduation ceremonies.
