The state has appointed a former education commissioner to be the head of Newark schools. Christopher Cerf was placed in that role this week, despite some not being happy with the state’s control on the district. There were some protests at City Hall in Newark over the appointment. Some of the leaders in brokering the deal say this could be the start of the end of the state having control over the Newark school district and it could be put back into Newark’s control by the end of Cerf’s term.
