Cape May County’s seniors are going to be a little warmer this holiday season thanks to Cape May Point resident Christopher South who brought the “Socks for Seniors” program to Cape May County. South presented the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders with a sample of socks to be distributed to more than 400 seniors at Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and those registered in the county’s homebound meals program.
“Socks For Seniors” is a program that was started by a couple in Columbus, Ohio who while visiting seniors at a nursing home heard residents say that their feet were freezing, so they collected socks for them. Today, it a national program with “Socks for Seniors” programs in more than 250 cities. This year, South decided to start the program in Cape May County and to-date has had tremendous response and should collect more than 500 socks by Christmas.
Socks collected for Cape May County seniors will be distributed to Crest Haven resident’s during their holiday party and distributed to homebound seniors with their holiday meals.
