The Christmas weekend blizzard that slammed the Jersey Shore also hit the northeastern part of the state as well. Union County appears to be the big ‘winner’ in the snowfall race with 31.8 inches falling in the city of Elizabeth. This eclipses the local snowfall high of 26.5 inches that fell in Dennis Township. Many public works officials throughout the state say that snow just blew back into the streets around the state on Monday after the streets were plowed. Many municipal public works departments in Cape May County continue the big dig out, and many municipal buildings that were closed on Monday are expected to reopen on Tuesday.
