Two very rare Snow Leopards were born at the Cape May County Zoo. The zoo welcomed the two cubs born to Himani and Vijay on May 10, 2010. They are the first Snow Leopard cubs ever born at the Cape May County Zoo and the first cubs for mommy ‘Himani’.
With the two new cubs, the Cape May County Zoo is now home to four Snow Leopards. However, at this early age, the Snow Leopards remain very fragile. Only eleven Snow Leopards were born and survived last year in the United States.
All four are currently housed in the Snow Leopard yard as the Snow Leopard Exhibit was destroyed during the February snow storms. The Cape May County Zoo has plans to build a new exhibit with the support of the Cape May Zoo Society.
