A new bill that would have limited smoking on New Jersey’s beaches and curtailed smoking at state parks is dead in the water. Governor Chris Christie vetoed a bill on Wednesday night that would have restricted smoking on the beaches, saying it was another case of a “one size fits all” approach by the Garden State. Christie says lawmakers overstepped their bounds by supporting the bill because it would have been enacted at the local level. More than a dozen towns in the Garden State have banned smoking on its beaches.
