Parents could be subject to fines of $100 if they are caught smoking while driving a car that includes passengers under the age of 17. That’s the intent of a new bill being proposed by democratic State Senator Joseph Vitale, who says driving is a privilege and not a right, and smoking in a car with children is just not a good idea. Vitale’s bill would result in no points on a driver’s record, and would be considered a secondary, and not primary, offense.
