Wildwood city commissioners did the expected Wednesday night and transferred the city’s department of public safety to Wildwood Mayor Gary DeMarzo. In a 2-1 vote, the commissioners approved stripping the department away from Commissioner Al Brannen and put the department under DeMarzo’s control. DeMarzo is a former police officer with the city, and a court ruled that he must choose between being a cop, or an elected official. DeMarzo finally chose to keep his elected office. There was public opposition to the move. Brannen even threatened to resign his city commission seat if the public safety department was taken away from him.
