A huge beach replenishment project that will benefit both Avalon and Stone Harbor will get underway Christmas week. A 710,000 cubic yard beach fill project will begin on the north end beaches in Avalon and continue to move south to the 30th Street beach before moving to Stone Harbor. The project will be interrupted for several weeks starting on February 6th when the dredge has to conduct a beach fill in Fire Island, New York. This beach fill project will repair damages from both Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy; the federal government is picking up the entire tab.
