The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said they received eight calls of seal sightings on Friday along several beaches, including Avalon, Ventnor, and Long Beach Island. The MMSC says the seals are “hanging out” in the sunshine, now that milder temperatures have returned. Seals are traveling more and chasing food, according to the Center and will come to the sunny beaches after eating to rest or dry off. Only two seals needed to be picked up for evaluation by officials at the Center.
