The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s 2012 Captain Thomas McCann Mascot School and Races recently took place with 200 girls and boys, ages 4 to 8, in front of the Beach Patrol’s Headquarters on the sands of the 44th Street Beach.
The yearly program consisted of two days of Mascot School on July 11-12, and one day of Mascot Races on July 14. During Mascot School, the children ran drills, played games, enjoyed snacks, rode on lifeguard rescue surfboards and learned to work as a team.
The first-place winners of this year’s sprinting races were Winn Nangle, 4; Gavin Wexle, 5; Matt Valente, 6, Jake Zunowski, 7; and Connor Wetzel, 8. The winners of the Surf Dash competition were Winn Nangle, 4; Gavin Wexle, 5; Mark Staino, 6; Nick Scannapieco, 7; and Ryan Oliver, 8.
